When will it be normal again? Has probably been one of the most used questions this year so far. But no one seems to have an answer for this question.
With 2020 being probably the most eventful year that I have lived through (and we are only about half way through the year), I’ve found myself asking this same question all the time. With the beginning of the year having the wildfires sweep across Australia, then Covid 19 sweeping the whole world. It’s almost an impossible question to answer.
But as Christians we have the answer to that question. An answer that is better than anyone could expect because we can answer with, “there will be a time when things are perfect.” Not normal but perfect. Ellie was speaking in her Wednesday’s Word yesterday about hope. We have this certain hope in Christ that he went to the cross and died for our sins and that he will, one day, return to make all things new.
Even though now we are facing trouble, Jesus himself said, in John 16:33,
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."
We can “take heart” as Jesus says and share the hope we have that one day he is going to return and make all things new. In Revelation 21 it says;
“Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
We can take great encouragement from this. Even though we are going to face troubles, we can be sure that Jesus has overcome the world and that we can be looking forward to the day he returns.
